Our limited edition TIMESTILL top has been handprinted using the beautiful means of ecoprint; a technique of botanical printing which translates plants directly onto the fabric.
We have wanted to work with Taller Silvestre ever since we became fascinated with their beautiful plant foraging collections last autumn. We have instantly bonded over our shared love of crafts & all things slow-made. After many cups of coffee & mindful conversations we have decided to create one of a kind printed pieces of floral art.
Our collaboration has commenced in March (just before quarantine) with handpicking of seasonal plants & with a careful study of floral species best suited for our experiment. We have decided to work with organic cotton base fabric which was developed specially for us by our small family run factory in Porto.
The plants for our project TIMESTILL have been collected during our daily lockdown wanders. Harvesting has become a manner of capturing the scenery, a memory or precious moments. The ecoprint technique allows us to develop this instant, almost As if it was nature’s photography.
Leaves of olive, rosales, eucalyptus & ailanto, which were used to print our piece, have became witnesses of an unedited moments in our lives, our fragility, strength & hopes. Our work has turned into a special, intimate experience of conscience & patience.
Ecoprint is a process that carries a part of a meditative ritual; mindful collection of plants & slow conditioning of individual garment parts to receive nature’s hues. The flowers & leaves are first treated to enable them shifting of colours in order to be later transferred onto fabric. All components are submerged in a steam recipient for various hours after which they are resting for few days evolving into small pieces of print art.
The eco print is a slow & mindful process filled with an almost meditative meaning. Each top & composition in our TIMESTILL collaboration is unique, just like all the nature elements that gave it life.
